Someone once told me you can have the greatest technology in the world, and if you can’t use it, it’s pointless.
Isn’t that the truth! Being someone with a disability, and a technology lover, I just thought I would give my two cents on that… or, I guess with the phase out of the penny, my five cents, rounded up of course.
Let’s start with the best stuff.
In August of 2023 I dug a hole in the ground to put my radio tower in. I’m not always the most physically capable person, but I have my days. When I did this I had decided I would try “Secure Set” expanding foam from GRA Services. I ordered a utility pack and had contacted the company to determine the volume of the foam in question. It’s been a few years, but I believe the package I ordered was roughly 12 ft³. I thought I would do a blog post with the “2 years update” on that, since it’s a question I sometimes get. I also thought I would include some retrospect tips I thought I would share if I ever had to do it again.
I’m excited to say that the ULS reflects my new ham radio license status as an extra. I passed over the weekend and am excited about that. It’s been a goal for a while, so I’m not sure what to do now that I’ve achieved it. I think I will need to try using my new privileges, and check out if my HF radio antenna still works in the snow. I’ve been on UHF/VHF, but my HF rig has been dormant for a while, due to lack of time, and focus on other things.
And we are back from that… interesting break. Rumors of me giving up blogging are greatly exaggerated, and I’m back! Previously mentioned weight loss doctor visit went well, I’m much lighter now. I’ve gone almost exclusively Linux at this point, and feel like I’m much more creative these days than I used to be. At least I try.
Some projects I want to try in 2026:
Well, this is going to be a somewhat personal post, but first, I’ll give you some tech updates. I think I’m going to rewire the home network. It’s gotten a little convoluted over time and I just think it needs a spruce up. We will so what I can come up with, but I have some hopes for it. Just like getting rewired myself. Tomorrow morning I see a Doctor about loosing some weight. I’m a bit apprehensive but we will see. If all goes well, I’ll have a few weeks to sit with my computer and write some code or something. Or hop on the airwaves… or maybe get around to writing a plugin for LinBPQ like I always thought would be fun… that would allow me to program and get on the airwaves. All for now.
Well, how about today. It’s a nice blue green day today and I’m actally trying to be outside. Had a cup of tea this morning. Rather enjoying this. As for projects, I think I am going to work on my ferrissay cli app today. It’s mainly a jumble of cargo crates, but it’s interesting learning it. I’ll post more about it when it’s more ready. Currently it only greets people, I would like it to be more like cowsay when it’s done.
I seem to have misplaced the old blog, so here’s a new one. What’s new with Eric? Well, I’m learning rust, been playing with Kotlin a little. Personally, I’ve been feeling a little better I think. There’s always the eb and flow to all of it. I look forward to seeing how things go. On the radio front, I continue to run my packet bbs station, and have been messaging people with that.
